The Campuhan Ridge Walk is Ubud’s favourite free activity: a paved path that runs north along the spine of a grassy ridge, with river valleys dropping away on both sides. It starts at the confluence of two rivers right on the western edge of town — campuhan means “where rivers meet” — beside the small temple of Pura Gunung Lebah.
After a short climb through jungle the path opens out onto the ridge itself: tall alang-alang grass, coconut palms and views over the treetops. Beyond the ridge it continues into the village of Bangkiang Sidem, where rice fields, small cafés and guesthouses line the lane.
The full walk to the village and back is around 4 km and takes most people one and a half to two hours with stops. It is easy, but there is little shade, so the time of day matters.
Top things to do at Campuhan Ridge Walk
Walk at sunrise
Early morning is cool, quiet and often misty over the valleys. Joggers and locals share the path; by 9 a.m. the sun is fierce.
Visit Pura Gunung Lebah
The temple at the start of the walk sits at the river confluence. Visitors can view it from outside; dress modestly.
Breakfast in Bangkiang Sidem
Keep going past the end of the ridge and you reach the village, where cafés overlook the rice fields. It is the natural turnaround point.
Return for sunset
Late afternoon is the other good window: the light goes golden over the grass and the walk back ends near the restaurants of Campuhan and Sanggingan.
How to get to Campuhan Ridge Walk
- The trailhead is on Jalan Raya Campuhan, by the bridge on the western edge of Ubud centre, next to Pura Gunung Lebah.
- From Ubud Palace it is about a 15–20 minute walk west along the main road, or a short Grab ride.
- There is no parking at the trailhead itself; scooters stop along the road nearby.
- Bring water, sunscreen and a hat: most of the ridge has no shade.
- The path is paved, so trainers or sandals with straps are fine.
- It is free — ignore anyone suggesting you need a ticket for the main path.
- Combine it with a yoga class or breakfast in Penestanan for a slow Ubud morning.
