About VisitUbud.com

An independent guide to Ubud — what we do, and how we pay for it.

VisitUbud.com is an independent travel guide to Ubud, Bali. We are not a tour operator, a hotel or a government tourism board. We write the guides, choose the experiences we think are worth your money, and earn a commission when you book one of them.

What we are trying to do

Much of what is written about Ubud is either a list copied from other lists or a brochure. We wanted a single reference that answers the questions people actually have: how many days do I need, where should I stay, how early should I get to Tegallalang, is the Batur sunrise worth the 2 a.m. start, how do I behave at a temple, and which of these hundreds of tours should I book?

So every page is written to be useful first. Where the honest answer is "you do not need a tour" — as with the Monkey Forest or the Campuhan Ridge Walk — that is what we say, even though it earns us nothing.

How we choose the tours we feature

  • They have to be live and bookable, with a real rating and a meaningful number of reviews.
  • They have to solve a genuine planning problem — access, timing, expertise or transport.
  • They have to be fairly priced against organising the same thing yourself.
  • We say plainly when a product is a transfer or a ticket rather than a guided tour.

We do not accept payment for placement or for a higher position in a ranking. Our editorial picks on the best tours page are our own.

How this site is funded

Through affiliate commission. When you book an experience via one of our links, GetYourGuide pays us a percentage of their margin; when you book a hotel through our Booking.com links, Booking.com may pay us a commission. You pay exactly the same price as going direct. There is a full explanation on our affiliate disclosure page.

We have no display advertising, no sponsored posts and no paid reviews, which keeps the incentives simple: if the recommendations are not good, nobody books anything.

Accuracy

Prices, opening hours, entrance fees and rules in Bali change often, including the tourist levy and transport regulations. We give ranges rather than precise figures wherever a precise figure would go stale, and we mark prices as indicative. If you find something out of date, please tell us.
