When you have had your fill of Balinese art, you can cross the Campuhan River and see how Bali affected western artists at the Museum Blanco. In honor of its namesake, Antonio Blanco, the museum houses some 300 paintings of the late Spainard, chronically the time he spent in Ubud. To put it simply, Blanco loved the female figure, especially of his Balinese wife, Ni Ronji. He is considered the eternal feminine painter, and is famous for bleeding his painting out into its frame. Classic romantic aside, The Blanco Museum offers a fantastic vantage point into the muses of Bali and its gorgeous natural beauty. |

Right off the main road is Neka, and one of the most complete collections of Balinese art. With galleries that illustrate the movements Balinese art went through, Neka is a great place to learn and absorb history. Neka also has a permanent collection of Arie Smith, and an extensive exhibit of sculptures. No true complete collection would be without keris? (a traditional Indonesian dagger said to have mythical powers). Pande Suteja Neka, the museums founder and owner, pays homage to his heritage with several exquisite examples of the fine craftsmanship that went into the legendary keris. |
