Health Precautions
It generally takes a while for a visitor from a temperate climate to adjust to a tropical climate and heat of Bali. Note that most tourists don't face greater illnesses than stomachaches and sunburn.

  Information

Food

Be cautious with what you eat and where you eat. Balinese diet consists of very spicy food. Be careful or avoid eating at small Warungs ( small eatery, diner) as you may experience digestive problems. Also hygiene may be questionable. Avoid eating fruits that are not peeled by you and wash them before eating. Always wash your hands before eating.

Tap water

Avoid drinking tap water. Water in most places is not drinkable. Drink only bottled water.

Mosquitos

Spray yourself with mosquito repellent. Most tourists get attacked by mosquitoes especially in the first few days after arrival. Protect yourself by applying mosquito repellents especially in the morning and evening time.

Sun

Protect yourself from over exposure to the sun. Sun in Bali is very intense especially during hours of 11 am and 2 pm. Don't forget to apply sun block with UV filters and reapply it after swimming. Wear sun protective clothing and a hat.

Medical Clinics

Medical infrastructure in Ubud is very well developed with stocked pharmacies and well equipped international clinics. Major clinics accept credit cards and have general doctors that speak English.

Pharmacies

Pharmacies are referred to as "apoteke". They are very well stocked in medications from all over the world and usually have a qualified pharmacist who can help you chose the proper remedy. Foreign medicines may be more expensive than local equivalents.

Vaccinations

All routine vaccinations for tetanus, diphtheria, polio, measles - mumps - rubella, varicella and influenza must be current. Required vaccinations for Indonesia are: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis, rabbles and typhoid.

Malaria

The risk of getting Malaria in Bali is very small and prevention by eating tablets is not recommended, but in many cases getting malaria shots has been suggested.

Check with a local doctor or clinic for up to date information on all the above requirements!
